I’ve just rediscovered - and found some new stuff from - the Lalia ‘Craving Control’ comics by a fantastic artist known only as ‘Arthur’.

You can find ‘em on Deviant Art here, but they’re probably easier to read on (gulp) E-Hentai here. (NSFW, obviously. But again you’re on a blog with chubby girls in various states of undress so you probably had that angle covered)

They’re incredibly well-drawn and best of all, funny. They sparkle with a great sensibility I’ve never seen in anything else, so I’m prepared to name them the single best achievement in the crossover field of fat fiction and fat art in the universe. The linework of bulging curves is beautiful, the expressions are perfect, and the colouring is incredible. I could go on.
The later standalone comics are probably better - the ‘Coming Apart at the Seams’, ‘Lap of Luxury’ and Thanksgiving ones - though they don’t unfold as a story as the main course of strips do.

Any kind of talk of Craving Control on the interweb seems to always be tinged with the sadness that it’s not around anymore. Thanks to doing some reading on the Craving Control DeviantArt Group and on the blurb at E-Hentai, it becomes evident this feeling simmers hot because of how the artist suspended the strip at least once. Thanks to that unexhaustable resource we have called ‘idiots acting like idiots on the interweb at every given opportunity’, it seems like a small slice of the fanbase managed to scare away the author, or at least act so insensitively as to destroy any kind of willingness he had to continue putting his fantastic work online.

Another possibility is that ‘Arthur’ was scared of getting ‘rumbled’. The guy’s obviously a professional artist of some stripe or other, and maybe he was scared of his work becoming too visible and ‘outing’ him as one of those… Strange people who like the idea of women eating well. Whoever they might be.

One cryptic poster on a comment stack insists ‘Arthur’s still out on DA doing work. I’d love to see some. I’d also love to see him doing fantastic belly-themed comics and none of the readers acting like dicks to somebody who’s providing them with unique entertainment for free. Actually, scratch that, if he’s a proper artist he’s probably moved on, so I wish him all the best. I’d still love to see some of his current work though.
